He tweeted: "We announce that the UAE has successfully operated the first peaceful nuclear reactor
in the Arab world.

Sheikh Mohammed added that the goal for the future is to provide a quarter of the country's electricity
in a safe, reliable and emission-free manner.
Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan also congratulated the plant on its operation

He tweeted: "The Barakah nuclear power plant started operations and meets the highest international safety standards

Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of Emirates Nuclear Energy, said the plant was "the culmination
of more than a decade of vision, strategic planning and strong program management.

Located 280 kilometers from Abu Dhabi, the Barakah nuclear power plant project is expected to meet 25% of the country's energy needs and reduce carbon emissions
by 21 million tons per year.
