The European Commission recently said it had approved France's €5.
7 billion aid package to support the installation of solar arrays
for small buildings.
The budget amount is temporary and will be used to finance feed-in tariffs
for installations with a capacity of up to 500 kW.
The EU explained that since the capacity of the supported projects is less than 1 MW, the assistance
can be extended without a tender process.
The EU said the aid was "appropriate and limited to the minimum necessary", in line with EU national aid rules, and its positive effects "outweighed any possible negative effects on distorting competition"
.
The aid program will last until 2026, while FIT is granted for a 20-year
period.
The level of a single FIT will depend on the size of the installation and the business model
.
In other words, the array will be evaluated
based on whether it outputs all of its power to the grid or only a portion of it to the grid while consuming the rest.
The EU added that through the scheme, France is expected to benefit
from an additional 3,700 MW of solar capacity.
