Recently, the submarine cable system TAT-14 connecting Norden in Germany, Widemouth in the United Kingdom, Blaabjerg in Denmark, Katwijk in France and the Netherlands to Manasquan and Tuckerton, New Jersey, USA
, was officially decommissioned.
It is reported that the system, which is more than 15,000 kilometers long, was put into service on March 21, 2001 and decommissioned on December 15
, 2020.
Subsea Environmental Services and Red Penguin Associates were awarded service contracts
for retirement in April 2021.
The planning phase of the project lasted almost a year (starting with a comprehensive decommissioning study), while the demolition phase began
in April.
Under the contract, the two companies will be responsible for the removal and recovery of shore-end equipment in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark and the Netherlands, and related equipment
in the deep-water section of the North Atlantic.
