Recently, the European Commission (EC) made an important decision: officially not to approve the application
of the active substance dithiocyanomethane Methylene dithiocyanate product type fungicide PT 12 under the EU BPR regulation.
Dithiocyanomethane is a slime moldicide and applicants including Aquapharm (Aquapharm Chemicals Pvt.
Limited) filed an application file for the active substance on 3 November 2008
.
France, the main evaluation body, submitted its assessment report
for the substance to the European Commission on 7 August 2013.
During this period, the European Commission organized several working group meetings to conduct a technical review of the substance, and the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) finally decided on 8 March 2022 to evaluate and decide not to approve the active substance PT 12 application
.
Subsequently, on October 21, 2022, the European Commission officially issued an application not to approve the application for dithiocyanomethane product type PT 12
.
The main reasons for not approving the substance type PT12 are:
❶ The total amount of multiple batches of active substances in five batches is less than 98%;
❷ The impurity information submitted by the applicant is inconsistent with the impurity information in the five batches report;
❸ Method verification data cannot be provided for some impurities;
❹ The identity of an impurity cannot be confirmed
.
It is important to note that as dithiocyanomethane is an existing active substance as defined under the EU BPR, biocidal products currently entitled to transitional registration should also be withdrawn from the respective Member State market
by the officially specified date.
In addition, the registration of dithiocyanomethane as a pesticide in China expired on December 31, 2008, and there are currently no pesticide products
containing this active substance in the Chinese market.
