BRUSSELS, Oct.
31 (Reuters) -- The European Commission on Wednesday approved new government support terms for liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals at Klaipeda seaport, after Lithuanian authorities modified some of the conditions
already approved in 2013.
The new provisions include a public service obligation for gas company Litgas to force the supply of LNG to the Klaipeda LNG terminal in exchange for compensation from the government
.
。
The second change is that the Lithuanian Thermal Power Corporation canceled the obligation to buy a certain amount of gas from Litgas, which will now be sold on the market
.
"The European Commission finds that modifications to the initial plan, in particular the removal of purchase obligations, will help strengthen competition
in the Lithuanian gas market," the European Commission said in a statement.
