The European Commission, the European Union's (EU) regulator, amended its renewable energy law to set targets
for the use of sustainable fuels in transport, heating and cooling.
The plan calls for a 65% reduction in emissions from new cars and vans by 65% by 2030 and 100%
by 2035 compared to 2021 levels.
These stricter pollution standards come with regulations by governments to strengthen vehicle charging infrastructure
.
The amendments also include a proposal to increase the EU's electricity from renewable sources to 40%
by 2030 from the current 32%.
The law could provide guidance for other countries to shift to net zero and encourage investment
in sectors that drive innovation in renewable energy.

Energy Information Administration The EIA also reported last week that growth in the country's large-scale solar power generation is expected to surpass wind for the first time in 2022.
EIA's short-term energy outlook estimates that wind and solar power generation will reach 15 percent of total U.

electricity generation by next year, up from 11 percent
in 2020.
It is expected to add 17 GW of solar power and 6 GW of wind capacity
in 2022.
