A joint project between Chinese and European energy and research institutions to generate electricity from fossil fuels without emitting carbon dioxide has been launched
.
The China-Europe Emission Reduction Solution Demonstration Project was officially launched
The China-Europe Solutions for Emission Reduction (CHEERS) R&D programme consists of eight project partners, including SINTEF Energi, Tsinghua and Zhejiang Universities in China, and Total in France
.
The goal is to develop a 3 MW demonstration power plant
that burns petroleum coke in China's Sichuan province.
The plant is expected to be the largest of its kind in the world
.
During the generation of electricity at the power plant, the emitted carbon dioxide is immediately captured and not released into the atmosphere, and then they will be stored ?? Underground or repurposed to make valuable chemicals
.
The electricity and steam generated by the hydrocarbons will be used
by energy retailers at other industrial sites.
The four-year project, with a budget of nearly 20 million euros, is funded
by the European Union and China's Ministry of Science and Technology.
