On November 28, 2022, at the closing ceremony of the 4th World Forum on Science, Technology and Development with the theme of "Openness, Trust and Cooperation", Shuai Zhigang, member of the Executive Committee of IUPAC and vice president of the Chinese Chemical Society, officially released the "2022 IUPAC Top Ten Emerging Technologies in the Field of Chemistry"
.
Top 10 emerging technologies in the field of chemistry in 2022
Sodium-ion batteries
Nanozymes
Aerogels Aerogels
Film-based fluorescent sensors
Nanoparticle megalibraries
Fibre batteries
Liquid solar fuels
Textile displays
Rational vaccines with SNA
VR-enabled interactive modelling
Professor Javier García-Martínez, President of IUPAC, pointed out in his video speech that through the release of the top ten emerging technologies in the field of chemistry, we hope to demonstrate the importance of different chemical technologies to improve human well-being, promote industrial development, cope with climate change, protect people's health, and respond through chemical science and technology
.
Vice Chairman Shuai Zhigang said that the "Top 10 Emerging Technologies in Chemistry" initiative is nominated and selected globally every year, showcasing the field of chemistry and intersection, from emerging scientific discoveries to viable technologies
that have been adopted by adventurous start-ups and bold industries.
We are pleased to see that research led by Chinese chemists continues to be included, such as "nanoenzymes" led by Academician Yan Xiyun's team this year, "thin film fluorescent sensors" led by Academician Fang Yu's team, "liquid solar fuel" led by Academician Li Can's team, "fiber batteries" and "fabric displays"
led by Professor Peng Huisheng's team.
It is hoped that it can attract more attention, support and participation
from China's scientific and technological circles.
Since 2019, with the 100th anniversary of its establishment, IUPAC has joined hands with chemical academic organizations from various countries and regions around the world, including the Chinese Chemical Society, to jointly launch the global activity
"Top Ten Emerging Technologies in the Field of Chemistry of the Year".
It is hoped that innovative technologies with great potential will be selected from around the world to change the current global chemical and industrial landscape and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
