The Netherlands and German grid system operator TenneT have laid 33 km of submarine cables in the deep waters of the North Sea in Europe as part of the construction of the Dolwin6 power transmission system, which will connect offshore wind farms in German waters to the onshore grid
.
TenneT said Wednesday that it was a high-voltage direct current cable that was laid to the planned location
of the offshore Dolwin kappa converter station with the help of a ship operated by the DEME Group.
Due to the safety risks posed by the current adverse weather conditions, cables in the shallow part of the beach will be laid in mid-2022, while cables from the offshore converter station will be installed
in late summer 2022.
The Dolwin6 transmission system, which will be completed in 2023, has a maximum capacity to transmit up to 900 megawatts of green electricity
generated by offshore wind farms in German waters.
The 90-kilometre-long transmission line, which includes 45 kilometres of sea cables and 45 kilometres of land cables, will cross the island of Nordern to the city of Emden in Lower Saxony, where it will be connected to the grid
