According to reports, the construction of this facility is to facilitate the berthing of a submarine cable maintenance ship to maintain and service submarine cables
in the Pacific region.
Samoa's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Afamasaga Lepuiai Rico Tupa'I, revealed, "We are in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, and we will benefit
from it that our neighbours or neighbouring islands can use it.
