Tanzania's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Ashatu Kijaji, revealed that plans are underway to extend the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Ashatu Kijaji said, "We are in talks with the Congolese authorities on our plans to connect to the local fiber optic network.
"
Tanzania's national fibre network currently stretches 8,319 kilometers and connects 21 regional capitals and continues to connect Burundi, Malawi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia and Mozambique
.
Looking ahead, the Tanzanian government aims to expand its infrastructure to 15,000 km
by 2023.
