Tanzania's Ministry of Communications and ICT has announced that it has signed a contract to expand the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) to interconnect
with neighbouring Mozambique.
The plan would mean a new 72-kilometre extension from Mangaka to Mtambaswala, on the Mozambican border, from where it would cross the Unity Bridge to connect
with Negomano in Mozambique.
It is reported that the contract, worth $1 million, was signed in January this year, and the deployment
is scheduled to be completed in July this year.
Currently, NICTBB currently reaches the borders of six neighbouring countries, namely Burundi (Kabanga and Manyovu), Rwanda (Rusomo), Uganda (Mutukula), Kenya (Sirali, Namanga and Horohoro), Zambia (Tunduma) and Malawi (Kasumulo).
