Tajikistan received a US$35 million loan from ADB for a power transmission project

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said today that it will provide $35 million to support the reconnection
of Tajikistan's electricity system to the Central Asian Power System (CAPS).

The transmission project is expected to be completed in 2022 at a total cost of $40 million, with the Government of Tajikistan providing the remaining $
5 million.

According to the Asian Development Bank, the funds will be used to install and upgrade modern relay protection equipment to synchronize the power systems of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, expand interconnection points and enhance Tajikistan's ability to
operate stably.

When completed, this reconnection will help expand regional energy trade and improve regional energy efficiency
in CAPS countries.
"The project will enable Tajikistan to export surplus summer electricity to Uzbekistan and allow more efficient use of district energy," added
ADB Finance Specialist Yuki Inoue.

between Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan.
