Recently, EPC contractor Swinerton Renewable Energy has begun construction of a 200-megawatt solar project
in Southern California's Empire Valley.
The project is owned by New Energy Solar (NEW), which received a new agreement in March 2018 from D.
E.
Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) acquired the plant
.
DESRI will continue to provide development and asset management services
for the project.
Swinerton is expected to complete construction
in December 2019.
The project will include a NEXTracker single-axis tracking system, Power Electronics inverters and more than 460,000 modules to provide enough energy
for the approximately 70,000 homes served by Southern California Edison.
Mount Signal 2 will be located on
486 hectares of land about 6 miles west of Calexico, Imperial County.
During the entire project construction period, more than 200 employees will be hired to work
on site.
The project will also connect San Diego gas and electric transmission lines
.
Swinerton's General Manager of Renewable Energy said, "This project light exemplifies the lasting economic impact
of solar projects on communities.
The project will provide hundreds of well-paying jobs for the underemployed local workforce, while also providing an opportunity
to build a skill set that can be used for future solar projects in the region.
