Swedish grid operator Svenska Kraftnat (SVK) said Sweden's plan to rebuild the grid in the densely populated southwest could affect Sweden's electricity supply
to neighboring countries.
According to the plan, about 400 kilometers of transmission lines will be gradually replaced over the next decade, but in the main power trading areas
of countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
Cheap and plentiful hydropower from Norway flows through Sweden to Germany, Denmark and other countries
.
SVK did not provide any details on the interconnection, as grid upgrades are still in the planning stages
.
But it said the risk of unplanned outages or power outages would rise
if work was not carried out.
SVK issued a statement saying, "In 2018, the oldest 400 kV high-voltage transmission line in the transmission grid has been in service for 70 years, and some 220 kV transmission lines have been in service for longer periods of time, except for reconstruction, they can no longer be repaired
.
" ”
It is reported that Sweden's grid reconstruction plan will cost about 342 million US dollars, and it will require the decommissioning of some local lines
for international power trade.
SVK said: "Some of the existing power lines need to be decommissioned during the new power line, which will inevitably have an impact
on electricity trade.
”
In addition to upgrading transmission lines, substations and other related equipment have been renovated or rebuilt, including 30 substations, 15 control facilities and nearly 500 high-voltage equipment
.
SVK added that the reconstruction of transmission lines would not pose a risk
to the region's energy-hungry data center power supply.
