The Spanish government is working on new renewable energy legislation
.
Recently, the Spanish Ministry of Ecological Transition submitted to Parliament and relevant ministries a draft document
containing the main points of the new climate change law.
The Government's goal is to expedite progress on a broadly agreed text ahead of legislative hearings in the Council of Ministers and Parliament
.
The ministry confirmed that the draft deals with energy networks, energy efficiency, buildings, transport and taxation, and that at least 20% of the national budget should have a positive impact
on climate change.
According to the Spanish EFE agency, the Spanish government plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030 compared to 1990 and 90%
by 2050.
Meanwhile, by 2050, the Spanish government plans to achieve 100% renewable electricity
.
According to the draft document, the government will launch tenders for at least 3 GW of renewable energy installed capacity per year between 2020 and 2030
.
Once the renewable energy law comes into effect, the government will no longer grant new exploration authorizations and concessions to extract
hydrocarbons.
At the same time, without a new fracking permit, the current permit will not last beyond 2040; No new subsidies or economic incentives could favor fossil fuel consumption
.
In addition, the public sector will divest companies
that develop fossil fuel-related activities.
By 2050, all passengers or light commercial vehicles that emit direct CO2 will be banned
.
By 2040, the government will no longer allow the registration and sale of CO2-emitting vehicles in Spain; These include hybrid, natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles, as well as gasoline and diesel vehicles
.
At the same time, the government plans to install charging stations at all fossil fuel supply stations; All cities with 50,000 or more residents have LEZs
in 2023.
By 2050, the government will promote the renovation of public and private buildings to achieve energy-efficient and decarbonized buildings
.
On average, at least 100,000 homes will need to be refurbished each year from 2021 to 2030 to meet energy efficiency standards
.
To support the fight against climate change, 20% of the Spanish government's budget will be allocated to the fight
against climate change.
Not only that, but the law will be accompanied by a transition strategy to mitigate its impact
on the places and workers most affected by the transition.
