South Korea strengthens the supervision of daily chemical products, requiring these 387 daily chemical products to be banned from sales and circulation

Recently, the Korean Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry Technology Research Institute announced and notified 387 types of daily chemical products that will be investigated and banned in the second half of 2021
.
Such products are not subject to safety standard verification and complete the correct notification procedures before they are circulated in the Korean market, which will result in the prohibition of production, import and circulation of these products
.
The Ministry of Environment has also entered such products in the "Hazardous Goods Prevention Sales System" and asked all online shopping associations in Korea to ban the sale and circulation of such products
.

The violations of these 387 daily chemical products are introduced as follows:

1.
340 products have not been confirmed and notified of safety standards in accordance with the Korean BPR regulations
.

The 340 products involved 33 disinfectants and 2 antibacterial disinfectants for humidifiers
.
It is worth mentioning that during this investigation, there were 29 "air fresheners attached to masks in the form of patches", and the applicants used fragrances (fresheners) for indoor space, fiber and other purposes.
However, it is used on masks in the actual production or import process, so it is an illegal product
.

2.
33 products have completed the notification, but the toxic substances exceeded the standard in actual circulation
.

Among the 33 products, 4 types of products, including deodorants, scavengers, and coating agents, were detected with methylisothiazolone (MIT), a substance that was originally banned, and the product with the highest content reached 16mg/kg
.
The restricted substance lead was also confirmed in 5 products including scavengers and cleaners, with a maximum level of 8.
7 mg/kg, 8 times the standard range

It was also found that the formaldehyde in seven products including tattoo dyes, fragrances and deodorants also exceeded the safety standard by 18 times
.

3.
14 products violated labelling standards

The content that needs to be presented on the labels of these products is not marked in accordance with the requirements of the Chemical Product Safety Law.
For example, the warning words and pictures that need to be reflected on the label are not marked as required
.

Since the incident of the disinfectant humidifier, the Korean government has also tightened the supervision of daily chemical products that are widely used by the general public in South Korea

Strictly prohibit the circulation of illegal products that may have an impact on the life and health of the people, and strengthen the penalties for the manufacture and distributors of illegal products
