South Korea has vigorously promoted microgrid technology, and some islands have become energy independent
.
Today, when people's dependence on electric energy is increasing and new energy development methods are diversified, microgrids are becoming an important direction
to solve energy needs in the future.
Microgrids are bidirectional systems that connect consumers and generators, where producers and consumers are integrated, and consumers can also be generators
.
The inexhaustible amount of electrical energy can be fed into
the microgrid in the region.
The efficiency of microgrids is much higher than that of traditional power grids, which can reduce the need to build large-scale high-voltage transmission lines and greatly reduce waste in the transmission process
.
Currently, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy of Korea is promoting the "Energy Independence Island" demonstration program on Korean islands to expand business opportunities
in the energy industry.
Last October, Gaza Island in the western part of Jindo County, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, achieved energy self-reliance
through microgrid technology.
The island has four 100 kW wind power stations and 314 kW Tai Neng power stations, with an energy storage capacity of 3 MWh
.
Even in windless weather, solar energy generates enough electricity for the island's residents, and surpluses can be charged into storage power stations
.
When fully charged, the storage station can meet the electricity needs
of 286 residents for one day.
Kim Ji-suk, who has always lived on the island, makes a living by fishing and opening a restaurant, and after having a microgrid, his restaurant has three large freezers, which he could not bring with him before
.
With the reserve of electricity, many residents of the island have also begun to plan to develop industries
such as aquaculture, aquatic processing, and refrigeration.
Many countries, including South Korea, are optimistic about the future development of
microgrids.
In December last year, the US energy professional research firm Navigent predicted that the global microgrid market will exceed $155 billion in 2023, and will also drive the growth of
intelligent buildings, interactive systems, automatic control and other related industries.
At present, the development and popularization of microgrids still face some problems: for example, renewable energy such as solar energy and wind energy are unstable due to weather influences, and the initial investment in microgrid construction is huge, taking Gaza Island as an example, the investment in microgrids on the island is as high as 9.
2 billion won
.
Although the development of microgrid is still in its infancy, in a sense, it has the characteristics of today's Internet thinking and sharing economy, and its promotion and application will greatly change the user's electricity consumption mode and even reshape the entire energy industry
