Recently, Solvay announced the launch of a new grade of KetaSpire® PEEK material, KT-850 SCF 30, which is specifically designed for precision braking systems and e-traffic electronic pump components, and is designed to provide a standard grade with 30% carbon fiber infill PEEK material better sealing performance

Carbon fiber-filled PEEK materials are traditionally used in anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) components such as lifters, poppets and plungers

The new grade KT-850 SCF 30 material improves the flow characteristics of the material and the surface finish of the part, so it can further replace the metal (aluminum, stainless steel) material

The ABS/ESC plunger plays a vital role in the functioning of the hydraulic unit of the system
.
The system combines an electronic pump, an electronic control unit (ECU), valves that control wheel brake pressure, and sensors that measure wheel speed, while the plunger controls the supply of brake fluid through linear motion

Replacing a metal plunger with a polymer plunger requires a material like KetaSpire® KT-850 SCF 30 because it balances the component's various high-performance properties, including coefficient of friction, mechanical strength, dimensional tolerance control, and sealing capabilities

KetaSpire® KT-850 SCF 30 can provide the flow characteristics required for injection molding ABS/ESC plungers while meeting the tight tolerances required for parts approximately 15mm long
