Solvay announces the launch of a new grade of KetaSpire® PEEK KT-850 SCF 30, designed for precision braking systems and electric vehicle electronic pump components
.
The product was developed to provide better sealing properties than standard 30% carbon fiber filled PEEK grades
.
Traditionally, carbon fiber-filled PEEK has been used in anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) components such as lifters, shrapnel, and plungers
.
The new KT-850 SCF 30 grade can further replace metal (aluminum) by improving the flow characteristics of the material and the surface finish of the part
.
The ABS/ESC plunger plays a key role in the functioning of the system hydraulics
.
The system consists of an electronic pump, an electronic control unit (ECU), valves that control wheel brake pressure, and sensors that measure wheel speed
.
The plunger controls the movement of the valve by controlling the brake fluid supply
.
Replacing metal with polymer plungers requires a material like KetaSpire® KT-850 SCF 30, which offers a balance of high performance properties including coefficient of friction, mechanical strength, dimensional tolerance control and sealing capabilities
.
Replacing aluminum in precision components such as ABS plungers can reduce overall costs and increase productivity
.
KetaSpire® KT-850 SCF 30 has the fluidity required to fill parts with a part length of approximately 15 mm, while also meeting the tight tolerances required for ABS/ESC plungers

The processability of KetaSpire® KT-850 SCF 30 is superior to existing materials, resulting in higher yields and a higher surface finish for better sealing and mechanical properties
