Constantia Flexibles, the world's third largest flexible packaging manufacturer, has launched its first recyclable, polypropylene-based single-material pharmaceutical packaging, PERPETUA AL.
According to reports, the package follows flexible packaging "design for recycling" guidelines and has high chemical resistance to corrosive liquid or gel formulatio.
Currently, the packaging is third-party certified by the German cyclos-HTP Institute, confirming material recovery rates of up to 96%, depending on the final material configurati.

High chemical resistanceGenerally speaking, traditional pharmaceutical flexible packaging is mostly multi-layer composite packaging, which is difficult to recyc.
"Our R&D and product management teams overcame this challenge to develop an all-polypropylene recyclable solution with high chemical resistance (HCR) for corrosive filled cargo," said Roberto, head of the company's innovative substrate films Martin explain.
PERPETUA ALTA can withstand, for example, hydroalcoholic gels under accelerated aging conditions, similar to HCR-compliant aluminum-containing multi-material laminate fil.
PERPETUA ALTA can replace existing multi-layer composite packaging solutions such as stick packs, pouches and stick packs, and can use existing equipment without changing the packaging machi.
