Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy said on Wednesday it had received a confirmed order
to supply turbines for the 1.
4 GW Sofia offshore wind farm project in the UK's North Sea waters.
The turbine maker had previously entered into a conditional agreement with Innogy, and the developer's renewable energy business was subsequently acquired
by German energy giant RWE AG (ETR:RWE).
RWE recently announced that it had made a final investment decision on the Sofia project, but had not yet signed a contract
with Siemens Gamesa.
Siemens Gamesa said in an exchange filing on Wednesday that its current order includes the supply of 100 SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines and a two-year service and maintenance agreement
.
Turbine installation is expected to begin
in 2025.
The Sofia offshore wind farm will be located in shallow waters of the central North Sea, 195km off the northeast coast of the UK
.
Once fully operational, it will be able to provide clean electricity
to 1.
2 million UK homes a year.
