Siemens has commissioned the second block
of a high-voltage DC back-to-back interconnection in Bheramara, Bangladesh.
Siemens commissions Bangladesh HVDC back-to-back interconnect block 2
With this commissioning, Siemens helped India and Bangladesh establish new power supply connections with transmission capacities of up to 500 MW
.
Siemens noted that the first block of the HVDC transmission line has been in operation
since 2013.
The block provides up to 500 MW of transmission capacity
.
Thanks to blocks 1 and 2 running in parallel, Bheramara HVDC back-to-back interconnection lines have achieved nearly 1,000 MW of transmission capacity, which is reportedly the highest reliable power capacity
in Bangladesh.
Electricity will be supplied to India from Bheramara via a 230 kV grid, which will be connected to India's 400 kV grid
via substations and overhead lines.
Mirko Düsel, CEO of Siemens Energy Management Transmission Solutions, said: "Reliable power transmission is essential
for emerging countries such as Bangladesh.
We are therefore particularly pleased to commission the second block
of this HVDC interconnection.
”
With just 24 months of project execution and 3 million hours of safe working time, the interconnection will help Bangladesh reliably import an additional 500 megawatts of electricity
per year from India.
HVDC interconnects provide a stable, economical and reliable power supply to the people and economy of Bangladesh, helping to consolidate the stability
of the power grid in this densely populated country.
