According to a report on the OE website on July 6, Shell has made a final investment decision for the Netherlands Hydrogen I project, which will be completed in 2025 and will be the largest renewable hydrogen plant in Europe
The 200-megawatt electrolyser, which will be built at Tweede Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam, will produce up to 60,000 kilograms of renewable hydrogen per day, Shell said on Wednesday
Renewable electricity for the electrolyser will come from the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (Noord), which is partly owned by Shell
Alternative to grey hydrogen
Alternative to grey hydrogenShell said the renewable hydrogen produced will be supplied via the HyTransPort pipeline to the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park in Rotterdam, where it will replace some of the grey hydrogen in the refinery
Anna Mascolo, executive vice president of Shell Emerging Energy Solutions, said the Netherlands Hydrogen I demonstrates how new energy solutions can work together to meet society's need for clean energy
Shell is part of the CrossWind consortium formed by Eneco, which won the tender for the subsidy-free offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust (Noord) in the Netherlands in July 2020
The consortium said at the time that it planned to have Hollandse Kust (Noord) operational in 2023, with an installed capacity of 759 megawatts, generating at least 3.
The Hollandse Kust (Noord) wind farm area is located 18.
