Serbia's first large-scale wind farm will start operating in October

The wind farm, with 21 wind turbines and supplied by German wind turbine manufacturer Senvion, was the first large-scale wind farm
    connected to Serbia's grid.
Elicio NV already operates an 8 MW Maribana wind farm
    in Serbia.

A spokesman for Elicio's Serbian branch told Reuters that the construction cost of the Alibana wind farm was 80 million euros, financed mainly through syndicated loans provided by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and some commercial banks
    .

The project will help Serbia reduce carbon emissions by more than 120,000 tons
    per year.

The spokesperson noted that the company has been granted temporary privileged power producer status and signed a 12-year power purchase agreement
with state electricity company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

Serbia gets 70% of its energy from coal and the rest from hydropower, and aims to get 27% of its energy consumption from renewable sources

Serbia's energy minister said the country will have 500 megawatts of installed wind power capacity
    by 2020.
