The move marks the beginning
of the country's third round of National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).
The NREP program was launched in 2017 with the aim of increasing the share
of renewables in the country's electricity mix.
Saudi Arabia aims to have 27.
3 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2024 and 58.
7 GW by 2030
.
Specifically, the third round of tenders for the program includes four PV projects that will be auctioned
in two categories.
The first will target smaller companies, covering 80 MW of Layla and 120 MW of Wadi Al Dawaser solar projects, while the other category will offer 300 MW of Saad and 700 MW of Ar Rass scheme
.
The deadline for bids for this round of tenders is February 6
, 2020.
All projects in this round will be implemented
with at least 17% local manufacturing requirements.
NREP's second tender round, launched in July 2019, aims to secure 1,470 MW of solar capacity from six projects, and this round is still ongoing
.
The deadlines for submitting proposals for these two categories are January 20, 2020 and February 3
, 2020.
The first round of the program facilitated the installation of the 300 MW Sakaka Sun Park and the 400 MW Dumat Al Jandal wind farm, which is still under construction
