Comonomers are one of the most important uses of α-olefins, accounting for more than
40% of α-olefin consumption.
α-olefin as a comonomer is mainly used in the industrial production of polyolefins, of which 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-octene and ethylene copolymerization can prepare high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and polyolefin elastomer (POE), 1-butene can also be copolymerized with ethylene, propylene to prepare propylene/ethylene/butene ternary random polypropylene or copolymerization with propylene to prepare butene copolymer polypropylene
