SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, has introduced Noryl GTX 9500 resin, a new addition to its family of unfilled Noryl GTX resins, offering excellent dimensional stability under high temperature and humidity conditions
.
Compared to polyamide (PA) resins (PA66 and PA6), SABIC's Noryl GTX 9500 resin maintains a better balance of mechanical properties and has a comparable high Flow and high temperature properties
.
Its dimensional stability and retention of mechanical properties - coupled with high flow properties - over a wider range of temperature and humidity conditions can provide opportunities for weight-saving thin-wall designs
.
Target applications for Noryl GTX 9500 resin include automotive junction boxes, connectors and other applications requiring dimensional stability
.
These materials also demonstrate their potential as base resins for carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites
.
Carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites can be used for structural and body components, as well as applications in the industrial, aerospace and marine markets
.
Darpan Parikh, head of global product management for resins and compounds in SABIC's Specialty Products business unit, said: "Our global development team is skilled in formulating thermoplastics with targeted properties to solve long-standing customer challenges, such as nylon's performance in moisture exposure.
Tendency to soften
.
"
Shinsuke Nakamoto, Senior Business Manager, Noryl Portfolio, Asia Pacific, SABIC's Specialty Products Business Unit, added: "We designed Noryl GTX 9500 resin to provide our customers with innovative new material options for those who must maintain their shape in high temperature, humidity environments.
and performance applications
.
The introduction of this new grade demonstrates our leadership in materials innovation and our focus on continuous improvement and expansion of our product portfolio
.

Withstands heat and humidity
Withstands heat and humidityPA resins have a strong tendency to absorb moisture and water, and this tendency is exacerbated at elevated temperatures, which may lead to softening, reduction in hardness and warping
.
Noryl GTX 9500 resin has significantly lower water and moisture absorption than PA, even at high temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius
.
In fact, testing by SABIC shows that Noryl GTX 9500 resin absorbs 21% less moisture than PA66 at equilibrium and 58% less than PA6
.
Hygroscopicity at equilibrium, Noryl GTX 9500 material surpasses PA in dimensional stability
.
The total dimensional change (flow and cross-flow) at equilibrium for Noryl GTX 9500 resin was 0.
29% compared to 84% for PA66, which was 165% higher than Noryl GTX 9500 resin
.
This improved dimensional stability provides benefits for moisture-sensitive applications, including reduced warpage for lower scrap, and thinner walls, supporting lightweight designs
.
Noryl GTX 9500 resin also exhibits excellent mechanical properties - flexural modulus, tensile modulus and flexural strength - in wet conditions compared to PA66 and PA6
.
In addition, this material surpasses existing PA-based Noryl GTX grades in water and moisture absorption, dimensional stability and performance retention
.
SABIC's new Noryl GTX 9500 resin is available worldwide
