On December 29, 2022, SABIC announced that it has partnered with packaging manufacturer Scientex to develop polypropylene (PP) flexible packaging materials
containing recycled seabound plastics.
SABIC says the recycled polypropylene has a 30 percent ocean-tactic plastic content and the same properties as existing fossil-based virgin polypropylene, making it a drop-in replacement in food flexible packaging applications without changing existing equipment and processes
.
Currently, the material has been used in
the packaging of a high-end noodle brand sold in the Malaysian market.
