The new, more advanced and safer fuel will reportedly be reloaded into the two operational reactors of the Kudankuram nuclear power project and loaded into a follow-on unit built in Tamil Nadu with technical assistance from Rosatom, Rosatom
.
In an interview with IANS, the vice president of TVEL, Rosatom's fuel division, said the company hopes to reach an agreement
with KNPP manufacturer, India's state-run nuclear power company, to eventually supply the new fuel.
Rosatom is also an equipment supplier to KNPP, whose first two units are already in service
.
Mr.
Ugryumov said that at the time of negotiating Modules 1 and 2, the company had only obtained an international licence
to load UTVS fuel into the VVER-1000 reactor.
"UTVS fuel has been used in all international projects in Rosatom, including Units 1 and 2 of China's Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant and Unit 1 of
Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant," he said.
He added, "Now we have a license to sell TVS-2M, a reference solution
for all power units of the VVER-1000 reactor that Rosatom built abroad.
”
It is understood that the new solutions for nuclear power plants are also more efficient
in terms of economy.
