On July 6, the Russian side said that Japan's "extremely unfriendly" position on Russia would not help the energy dialogue
between the two sides.
A day earlier, Russia had warned that Japan could be "out"
in a major energy project.
On July 6, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Japan's extremely unfriendly position towards Russia is completely unhelpful to the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, including the energy dialogue
, under any circumstances.
Recently, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said in a speech that the G7 intends to take "price limit" measures on Russian oil exports, saying that Russian oil "will not and cannot be" sold
in the international market at a price higher than the set price.
This remark was strongly opposed
by the Russian side.
Medvedev, vice chairman of Russia's National Security Council, warned Japan that if the West takes such measures, oil prices will soar and that "Japan will neither obtain oil nor gas from Russia nor participate in the 'Sakhalin 2' LNG project
.
"
The Sakhalin 2 project is located on the continental shelf of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East and is mainly used for oil and gas
.
It is understood that liquefied natural gas accounts for 24% of the energy needed in Japan, of which 9% of the liquefied natural gas is imported from Russia, almost all from the "Sakhalin 2" project
.
