Renewable energy company ReNew Power announced that it has won a tender
to build a 3 MW floating solar project in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
This will be one of the largest floating solar PV projects in India, generating an estimated 4.
2 million electricity per year, offsetting more than 3,960 tonnes of carbon emissions
per year.
CEO of ReNew Power said, "Floating solar is an emerging technology trend with great potential and we are proud to be associated
with this project at the Meghadrigedda reservoir in Visakhapatnam.
We believe that floating solar power plants can play a key role in a
country like India with abundant water bodies.
”
The company said it had won the project
after the Great Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) conducted a tender.
The project will be funded
by a grant from the GVMC through the Asian Development Bank under its Urban Climate Change Restoration Trust Fund.
