An Expert Accreditation Committee (EAC) under India's Ministry of Environment has approved a proposal to grant a Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) license
to a project designed to connect Chennai with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands) through a 2,246-kilometre submarine cable.
Local media reported that the $10.
2 million submarine cable could connect Chennai, Port Blair, Havlock Island, Hutbay, Kamorta, Greater Nicobar Islands, Long Island and Longgat Island

The cable will carry 100Gbps light waves

It has previously been reported that Indian telecommunications company BSNL delivered a contract in July 2018 to NEC Technologies India (NECTI), the Indian subsidiary of NEC Corporation, to design, engineer, supply, install, test and implement the submarine cable system, and the parent company NEC will manufacture the submarine cable and provide technical support
during the turnkey project.
