Prysmann Group, a global manufacturer of energy and communications cables, has announced that a new submarine cable laying vessel, Leonardo da Vinci, has been delivered
    .

As a unique asset for the existing Group's most advanced laying vessels, Leonardo da Vinci will allow for more efficient and sustainable project execution to develop smarter and greener grids on a global scale to support the energy transition
    .

"The Leonardo da Vinci is the world's most efficient laying vessel and will support the Group's long-term growth
in the submarine cable installation business.
This will strengthen our leadership in the grid interconnection and offshore wind farm markets," said
Valerio Battista, Group CEO of Prysmian.

The first task assigned to Leonardo da Vinci was to install the Viking Link submarine cable connection between the UK and Denmark, the world's longest power interconnect system
    .
The ship has just arrived at the Arco Fenice plant – one of Prysmian's four centres of excellence for submarine cable production – to load the cables
    to be installed.

Later this year, it will be fully committed to other important projects, such as the submarine power interconnection between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in Spain and the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm
    in France.
The official launch ceremony will take place in the second quarter of 2022 to demonstrate Leonardo da Vinci's superior performance and cable installation capabilities, backed
by a proven track record of project execution.

The Vard Group, which builds Leonardo da Vinci, is one of the world leaders in the construction of purpose-built vessels for the offshore market and has been a subsidiary
    of Fincantieri since January 2013.

According to reports, the laying vessel is about 170 m long and 34 m wide, providing a high degree of project versatility, such as: a deep-water installation capacity of more than 3,000 m, thanks to a new generation of cable technology, armored with lighter materials; maximum speed slightly more than 16 knots; With 7,000 tons and 10,000 tons of turntables, it ensures the highest turntable capacity on the market, reduces the transportation time from the factory to the site, and improves the overall project efficiency; Two independent laying lines for increased operational flexibility; With a pull force of more than 180 tons, the bollard has the ability to
perform complex installation operations and support a wide range of laying tools.
In addition, the ship is equipped with a state-of-the-art DP3 positioning and seakeeping system
    .
All cable handling and installation equipment is designed
    by Prysmian.

Leonardo da Vinci's high cable load capacity and navigation speed can also significantly reduce the number of
cable installation activities for any project.
As a result, fewer transport times and less transit time are required compared to conventional cable-laying vessels, resulting in an overall reduction in CO2 emissions and a reduction in fuel consumption of around 40%.

Leonardo da Vinci is also a high-end vessel in terms of sustainable performance, as it ensures a reduced environmental footprint: more than 80% of its lighting consists of low-power LEDs, which means less
    emissions from generators.
In addition, it is powered by the most efficient and environmentally friendly engines, which reduces NOx emissions by 85% and enables ships to meet the most stringent international environmental requirements
