European cable manufacturer Prysmann Group said it has won the largest submarine cable contract
ever in the United States.
Specifically, the contract was awarded by Dominion Energy Virginia, a subsidiary of U.
S.
energy company Dominion Energy, to a consortium
consisting of Prysmann and offshore wind industry leader Deme Group.
The contract includes transportation and installation of foundations and substations, as well as offshore array cables and export cable EPCI (engineering, procurement, construction, installation) services
for offshore wind farms.
The entire contract is worth around €1.
6 billion, of which around €630 million is related to Prysmann for works such as cable supply and installation
.
Specifically, Prysmann Group will supply the Virginia Coast offshore wind farm with three three-core 220 kV high-voltage AC output cables, each 62 km long, XLPE insulated and armoured
.
The company will also supply 320 km of three-core 66kV offshore array cable with XLPE insulation
.
The Virginia Coast Offshore Wind Farm Project is critical
to helping Virginia meet its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2045.
The offshore wind farm, consisting of a total of 176 turbines, will be able to provide clean electricity
to up to 660,000 homes.
"Prysmian Group is an experienced industry leader with a key role in providing submarine cables that will help us deliver clean, renewable offshore wind onshore so that it can ultimately reach our customers' homes and businesses," said
Joshua Bennett, Vice President, Offshore Wind, Dominion Energy.
"This is Prysmian's first Power Plant Ancillary (BoP) contract and our first partnership
with Deme Group.
Both companies are leaders in their respective fields and are working together to deliver successful solutions for Dominion Energy," said
Hakan Ozmen, Prysmian Group Executive Vice President, Projects.
Following the €200 million Vineyard wind project and the $900 million SOO Green HVDC transmission project, the Virginia Coastal Offshore Wind Project is an important addition
to Prysmian Group's growing portfolio of submarine cable systems in North America.
