Prysmann Group, a large European cable manufacturer, recently announced that it has received an order for a 68 million euro submarine cable connection project to connect the island of Elba and the Italian mainland Piombino
.
The project was undertaken by Terna Rete Italia, wholly owned by Italian grid operator Terna, and Prysmann was awarded the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the cable connecting Elba Island to mainland Piombino, including 34 km of submarine cable and 3 km of land cable
.
It is reported that the submarine cable required for this time will be manufactured at the Arco Fenice plant (Naples), which is one of the Group's technical and manufacturing centers of
excellence.
The land cable will be produced
at the Piginataro plant.
The cable laying will be carried out by Leonardo da Vinci and is scheduled for delivery and commissioning
in 2023.
The project is the third of its kind in Terna, after Capri-Torre Annunziata and Capri-Sorrento
.

It is reported that the construction of the system will double the energy supply on the island, guaranteeing safer energy flows, especially during the summer tourist season
