Prysmian Group has been awarded two major contracts with a total value of more than €800 million, including Amprion Offshore GmbH, a subsidiary of German transmission system operator Amprion, for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of land and submarine cables for the grid-connected systems of two offshore wind farms in the German North Sea, namely DolWin4 and BorWin4
.
It is reported that the DolWin4 and BorWin4 projects will jointly transmit 1.
8 GW of power capacity
.
Prysmian will supply approximately 1,000 km of HVDC ± 320 kV single-core XLPE insulated copper cable
.
The submarine cable will be produced in Pikkala, Finland and Arco Filice in Italy, while the land cable will be produced
in Goron in France and Abbeville in the United States.
Prysmian will install submarine cables on state-of-the-art vessels to ensure minimal environmental impact
.
Delivery and commissioning of both projects is planned for 2028
.
Each cable system consists of 2 HVDC cables that can transmit 900 MW of electricity
.
On land, the two systems operate
on a 300-kilometer A-Nord underground cable corridor.
The submarine cable will pass from the offshore platform through the "Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer" national park, cross the island of Nordney and then connect to the overland cable
close to Hilgenriedersiel.
This is Prysmian's first 320kV HVDC subsea project
with Amprion Offshore GmbH.
