On February 28, Borouge officially announced the opening of the fifth polypropylene production unit (PP5) in Ruwais, UAE
.
The unit will help boost polypropylene production capacity in the UAE to meet the growing global market demand for advanced recyclable packaging, infrastructure and other industries

It is reported that the PP5 plant is located in Borouge’s Phase III plant.
This new plant will achieve the goal of producing 480,000 tons per year, helping to increase Borouge’s polypropylene production capacity by more than 25% to 2.

PP5 aligns with UAE’s “Home First Strategy” and “Domestic Manufacturing” program requirements

The value of Borouge PP5 project's "country first strategy" accounts for more than 60%, reflecting the level of local procurement in the UAE and "Made in the UAE" products
.
All steel structures, piping and accessory equipment are sourced from the UAE
.
Thirty percent of the equipment installed at the PP5 unit is "Made in the UAE"
.
In addition, all subcontracting services are provided by local suppliers
.

It is understood that the construction of the PP5 plant started in December 2018 and was successfully completed during the COVID-19 epidemic
.
More than 100 regular Borouge employees and more than 4,000 expatriate employees participated in the project, and the device will be officially put into use at the end of 2021
