According to the "American Lubricants Weekly" news on April 20, according to data released by a government agency, Brazil's base oil production (mainly API I base oil) fell by 15% in February, and imports fell by more than
two-thirds.
This resulted in almost identical production and exports for the month, in line with the general trend
before the pandemic.
Brazilian base oil production fell to 44,000 mt in February, down from 52,000 mt in February 2021 and down 10%
from 49,000 mt in the same period in 2020, according to Brazil's National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, total production in February was down 10%
from January.
Brazil's base oil production totalled 93,000 mt through February, unchanged
from the same period last year.
The South American country imported 44,000 mt of base oil in February, down 68%
from 138,000 mt in the same period last year.
As of February, Brazil imported 90,000 mt of base oil this year down 59%
from 220,000 mt in the first two months of last year.
