Philippine long-distance telephone company PLDT has revealed plans to build two new submarine cable landing stations to meet the data needs
of its customers.
Manuel Pangilinan, CEO of PLDT, said: "We already have three cable landing stations, and PLDT and its wireless subsidiary, Smart, will add two more next year to increase its broadband and data services

PLDT-Smart is currently part of a network of 16 international cable systems and has 3 existing cable landing stations
.
PLDT's investment in fiber expansion has also improved Smart wireless networks such as LTE and 5G, as well as connectivity
to corporate data centers.
As of September, PLDT's fiber optic infrastructure has reached 395,000 km
.
PLDT-Smart's backbone network has a capacity of 55 megabits per second, and the company plans to increase its capacity by another 37 megabits per second to support its 5G, LTE, fiber-to-the-home networks
.
According to reports, ongoing work will expand PLDT's fiber coverage by another 81,000 kilometers, specifically including an additional 31,000 kilometers by 2020 and 50,000 kilometers
by 2021.
