Mitsubishi Chemical will establish
CFRTP Composites Pilot Plant
Recently, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) announced plans to build a carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composite pilot plant
in Fukui Prefecture, Japan.
MCC has an extensive track record of successful use of carbon fiber reinforcements in applications such as automotive, and the company also has a wealth of technologies
related to carbon fiber and plastic modification.
With the support of the Fukui Prefectural Industrial Technology Center, we have established technology
that enables the efficient production of high-quality CFRTP with low void rate using technical collaboration within the MCC Group.
In the future, MCC will sell the Kerron thermoplastic composite brand as a new product line, and promote
it to the Japanese CFRTP market, which relies on imported products.
It is understood that MCC has advanced technologies
related to PAN-based carbon fiber, asphalt-based carbon fiber and thermoplastics from general-purpose grades to highly heat-resistant products.
With this acquisition, MCC will have prepreg plants
in Europe, the United States and Japan.
