Recently, Petrospa's Repsol said it had acquired the power assets
of Spanish company Viesgo for 750 million euros as part of diversifying its low-emission business.
Petrospaños Repsol acquires local power assets for €750 million
Refiners around the world are committed to reducing carbon emissions in their operations and helping to meet UN-backed targets to limit global warming, while Repsol has expressed support for the 2015 Paris climate change agreement
.
The acquisition will add a further 2,350 MW to Repsol's generation capacity
.
The company said in a statement that it aims to have 2.
5 million gas and electricity consumers
by 2025.
Two combined cycle gas plants in the northeast and south, respectively, will account for 1,650 MW of total capacity, with the remaining 700 MW coming from three hydroelectric plants
in the northwest.
The acquisition also includes Viesgo's gas and electricity sales business, but excludes coal-fired power plants
.
Repsol said the acquisition would improve its own energy efficiency and reduce the cost of
setting up five main sites in Spain.
Repsol entered into the deal
with Viesgo's two major shareholders, Macquarie Infrastructure and Wren House, the infrastructure arm of the Kuwait Investment Authority.
