Colombia's national oil company Ecopetrol announced plans to build its first solar park next year, with a capacity between
10 MW and 15 MW.
Petronas of Colombia will build its first solar park in 2019
Ecopetrol said it will hold a tender process in the fourth quarter of 2018 to select the developer
of the project.
Once the winner is selected and the project is approved, the construction phase begins and lasts for one year
.
Covering an area of 18 hectares, the production of the solar park will be used to partially meet the energy needs
of the Ecopetrol Castillan field.
When completed, the project will generate enough electricity to offset about 14,000 tons of CO2 emissions
per year.
Ecopetrol also announced that the solar park is the first
in a series of initiatives currently under consideration.
The total installed capacity of a series of measures is 140 MW
