Recently, the international standard ISO 24048:2022 "Plastics" led by the PetroChina Petrochemical Research Institute was developed
Determination of acrylonitrile content in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin continuous phase Dumas method was issued and implemented
.
This is the fourth international standard
led by the Petrochemical Institute.
This standard is a method standard for testing the content of bound acrylonitrile in ABS resin, and can also be used for testing the content of bound acrylonitrile in styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer (SAN) resin
.
Acrylonitrile gives ABS resin chemical stability, oil resistance, certain rigidity and hardness, combined with acrylonitrile content is an important performance index
of ABS resin.
However, the original ISO standard required 24 hours of continuous uninterrupted treatment for more than 4 days of sample preparation time of up to 100 hours alone, and then the treated specimen
was determined by Kjeldahl method.
The entire analysis time is too long to be used for quality control testing and factory inspection in the production process, and it cannot meet the needs of
rapid quality evaluation required for ABS resin commodity trading.
In view of the key problem that the pretreatment time of ABS resin combined with acrylonitrile content detection is too long, the Petrochemical Institute began to study new detection methods in 2015, and proposed a new technical route, and preliminarily completed the method research in 2017, and the pretreatment time of the new method was less than 4 hours
.
In addition, in terms of detection technology selection, they used the environmentally friendly Dumas combustion method instead of the Kjeldahl method for the determination
of nitrogen content.
The new project proposal of this method standard was officially approved at the 67th International Standard Plastics Annual Conference in 2018
.
In the subsequent international cooperation, the Petrochemical Institute discussed and exchanged the technical details of the standard with experts from various countries, and invited seven laboratories in Germany, Italy and China to carry out precision tests
.
After review, voting, revision and improvement at all stages of standard formulation, the standard was finally officially released
on November 17.
