Petrochemical producers confident of full-year earnings

Strong growth in first half, optimistic second half forecast

At this stage, global petrochemical producers are still struggling to cope with the economic impact of rising energy and raw material costs, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the conflict between Russia and Ukrai.

BASF reported that in the first quarter, EBIT before special items was 82 billion euros, a year-on-year increase of 21 percent; sales rose 19 percent to 208 billion eur.

In Asia, Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings announced in May the 2021 fiscal year (April 2021 to March 2022) financial report that the company achieved an operating profit of 303 billion yen in fiscal 2021, up from 45 billion in the same period last ye.

Second half forecast remains optimistic

Market participants said that the outlook for global chemical demand varies by region, but in general, global chemical demand will continue to grow significantly, with the exception of Eastern Europe and the CIS countri.

According to the American Chemical Industry Council (ACC) mid-year chemical industry situation and outlook report released in early June, global chemical production will increase by 8% in 2022, following a 3% increase last ye.

Several company leaders remain optimistic about the outlook for the petrochemical industry in the second half of the ye.
