Palau Submarine Cable Company recently began deploying a link path to the ECHO submarine cable system to enable interconnection
to international networks.
The path was built to connect the island nation of Palau with the ECHO cable system
.
The project was funded by grants and loans
from Palau, Japan, Australia and the United States.
The submarine cable will connect from a base in the port of Ngardmau to deep water 7 kilometers away
.
The next step is to lay a 100-kilometer branch path to connect with the ECHO
.
The ECHO submarine cable system runs from Eureka in California to Changi North in Singapore, with two more branches to Agat and Piti (Guam), and plans to land at
Tanjung in Indonesia.
The ECHO will provide 12Tbps of capacity per pair of fibers, of which the 16,026 km mainline consists of
12 pairs of fibers.
The two 372 km branches to Guam (BU1 and BU2) will each have 12 pairs of fibers, while the 234 km branch units to Indonesia (BU3) will include 4 pairs of fibers
.
Developed in partnership with Facebook, Google and XL Axiata, the system is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2023, while the Palau feeder is expected to be connected
in the first quarter of 2024.
