Recently, a Pakistani coal power company has signed a contract with Karachi solar EPC company Reon Energy to build a 5MW photovoltaic project for Pakistan to help its mining operations
.
Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) said the project, which can be installed in Thar Coal Zone II in Sindh, will be the country's largest private C&I solar-owned energy consumption project
to date.
SECMC said it is focusing on energy cost savings and reducing carbon emissions from solar plants
.
The company has the option to extend the contract during or after the completion of the project, in which Reon will provide operations and maintenance services for 15 years before handing over the business to SECMC
.
"The 5MW solar system will bring the equivalent of planting about 220,000 trees and will be the largest private solar PPA
in the country," said SECMC's COO.
It is also the first time a Pakistani mining company has installed a solar power plant
for its mining operations.

According to the CEO of Reon Energy, "Pakistan enjoys a strategic geographical advantage
in producing large amounts of solar energy.
Advances in solar technology have not only improved the efficiency of solar energy, but also greatly reduced costs

This is a landmark project that will significantly reduce operating costs and carbon footprint

The project will also create dozens of jobs
in the surrounding area.
