Ocean Recovery Group, a new joint venture between 4G Recycling, a family-owned recycling and waste management business, and packaging solutions company AE Global, is a social enterprise with a mission
.
Headquartered north of Miami, Florida, the company's original processing operations are located in the Dominican Republic to address the massive plastic pollution problem in the Caribbean and Western Hemisphere coasts
.
It's an ambitious ambition, but one that the joint venture, with over 100 years of experience in the recycling industry, is confident it can deliver
.
"Ocean Recycling Group's extensive knowledge in the recycling and packaging industry, combined with our practical, sustainable and scalable solutions, will dramatically reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean and the need for virgin plastic for product production
.
" Ocean Recycling Group President Zachary Kirstein said
.
Ocean Recycling Group will be the first integrated recycler for ocean plastics in the Dominican Republic and the first in the Caribbean
.
Currently, less than 8% of plastic is recycled in the Dominican Republic
.
Ocean Recycling Group, in collaboration with local processing partner Next Generation Recycling Latin America, is currently building its first recycling plant in La Vega, Dominican Republic
.
The new plant is expected to be fully operational by March 2022
.
"Ocean Recycling Group has the equipment, experienced management, and the ability to collect, clean, sort, pack and transport ocean plastic," Kirstein said
.
As a social enterprise, it will sell the recycled plastic to processing plants to make plastic pellets , which is then sold to manufacturers as recycled plastic to help solve the ocean plastic crisis in the Western Hemisphere
.
