Engineering and industrial industries use nylon 66 due to its favorable mechanical properties, including high strength, abrasion resistance, toughness, and dimensional stability
.
As a rigid, machinable thermoplastic, cast nylon is very versatile, has good usability compared to other plastics, and is often used as a replacement for metal bushings and bearings
.
However, there are applications where neither metal nor standard nylon can be lubricated due to high humidity or wet conditions
.
As a solution, Interstate Plastics offers a self-lubricating Nyloil® cast nylon sheet, rod and tube for use in these chronically wet or humid environments
.
Nyloil® is a self-lubricating nylon material made from oil-based lubricants and cast nylon
.
During manufacture, it is carefully dispersed with lubricants to form a highly crystalline, internally lubricated, high-strength polymer
.
Self-lubricating gives this oil-filled nylon a 25% lower coefficient of friction than other grades and enables it to continue to work in wet conditions, such as marine applications
.
Even under the harshest operating conditions, the oil will not spin out, dry out or drain
.
Standard grades of Nyloil® are not FDA compliant, but FDA approved food grade versions of Nyloil® are available upon request
.
Nyloil® is used in a variety of industrial, marine and commercial applications where self-lubrication, strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability are critical
.
In many power transmission applications, Nyloil® components replace metal components, extending component life and reducing noise
.
It can be machined into a range of different parts including bushings, bearings, gears, pulleys, rollers, wheels, wear rails, wear strips and wear pads
.
