Ramagundam, India's state-run utility (NTPC), is reportedly considering building the country's largest floating solar power plant with a capacity of 120 MW
.
The power plant is being planned on NTPC reservoirs, spread over 4,600 acres on the outskirts of Ramagundam
.
Since January 29, 2014, NTPC Ramagundam has set a milestone in the country, generating 10 megawatts of solar energy
.
It generates about 12 million electricity per year, reaching 14 million electricity, saving 14,000 tons of coal
.
The solar power plant is distributed in the coal belt area
.
According to official information, floating solar power plants are more efficient than ground-mounted installations
due to the regulating effect of water on panel temperatures.
In addition, the flotation equipment will also reduce water evaporation in the reservoir and save water
.
The source added that the solar panels will be mounted on iron-cement floats with hollow interiors to allow them to float
.
The NTPC Ramagundam reservoir stores about 7 trillion feet of water and covers more than 4,600 acres
